About NEDivers.com
NEDivers is a loose affiliation of people who like to dive in the Northeast, particularly in New England.

We're not going to lie to you, originally, the NE in NEDivers stood for New England. But then we got to thinking about it, and we figured why limit ourselves to just New England, when there are so many great sites on which to dive in other states in the Northeast. Accordingly, we added New York and New Jersey into the mix. One never knows, more could be added at any day.

Getting a bit deeper into who we are... we're not really a club. We're more a bunch of recreational divers of varying ability, all the way from people who just got certified, to people who dive an awful lot but never got the itch to go pro, Divemasters, and Instructors. You'll find a wide mix of people represented in the pictures and in the write ups, from computer nerds to business professionals to stay at home Moms. We don't much care what you do for a living; diving is the great equalizer.

The site started out as a way for us to post some pictures and to be goofy together. We always intended to add a section about places to dive to the site, but some things got in the way, like getting married, building a house, having kids, and beer to name a few. But while having lunch with Bill Hunt the other day, he pointed out to me that there's no really good dive portal out there that focuses on Northeast scuba diving. The seed being planted, I went back to my lonely nerd's den and dusted off the old PHP books. We're still working on it, but more content is forthcoming on a weekly, if not on a daily basis.

One of the things we've had in the past is the "Members Only" section, which seems a bit outdated. We're thinking that's going to be removed, at least in its existing form. Your email and everything else you've gotten used to in the last couple of years will still work, but I think the lame bulletin board section will be killed off, mainly due to lack of use.

I also think that we're going to kill off the dive rules section. That one was dumb anyway... It's not up to us to tell you how to dive, and it's not like people are going to listen to us anyway. Weather will probably be removed altogether from the main menu set, and will likely be placed as a URL or an include on the page that represents a specific dive site, once we get the dive site engine up and running. And the plan a dive section... well, that was a neat idea, but never used in the last 2 years (seriously), so I think we need to put that to bed. Same for contact other members.

Doesn't leave us with a ton of content, does it? Well, we're working on it. Once I get through what we've got above, we'll be left with this about section, the links section, and the photo gallery. While the dive photos are actually about diving, and the recently revised links section is also loaded with legitimate and working scuba links, that's about all we'll have. We've got a pretty nifty Dive Site Engine in the works, which will add a lot of really interesting to the content, once we get that all up and running. Once that is up, there will be some other things being developed, including a user rating system, a user comment section for each site, and a list of links for attractions, restaurants, and hotels in the area of each dive site, which will also have the ratings and comments sections on them.

Long story short, it's a work in process. Bear with us, there's more coming. If you've got an idea for something you'd like to see, or if you have something to contribute to us, shoot Will an email at will at nedivers.com. I'll do my best to get back to you in a timely fashion.

~Will
